An extortion case was filed against former health and family welfare minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and 11 other BNP leaders today.

Mohammad Ibrahim, a businessman, of Kolakandi village in Titash upazila filed the case with a cognizance court.

In the case, the plaintiff alleged that the former minister demanded Tk 1 lakh from him over cell phone on April 10, 2003.

He also said that he paid Tk 40,000 in the first installment and promised to meet the remaining money afterwards. But, after some days, as the accused started putting pressure on him, he (Ibrahim) left the area in fear of his life, Ibrahim alleged.

After hearing the plaintiff, the court asked the officer-in-charge of Titash Police Station for taking legal action after proper investigation.
